Cell Figure
並んでいる五体の人型細胞彫刻は制作時は全て同じ形だったが、ひと月ほど培養すると細胞の自己組織化の働きにより、個体ごとの姿勢変化が起こり、個性のようなものが現れる。技術的には人の形に成形された細胞コロニーに過ぎないが、それぞれが取る姿勢の変化は、見る人に何か意思のようなものを感じさせ、生命とは何かを考えさせてしまう「生きた彫刻」である。

Cell Figure is a human-shaped cell sculpture created by pouring collagen gel containing living cells into a mold, fitted with a skeletal frame. The five human figures displayed side by side were identical at the time of fabrication, but after about a month of culturing, the cells began to self-organize. As a result, each figure gradually shifted into a different posture, bringing about something like individuality. Technically speaking, they are nothing more than cell colonies molded into a human form, yet the distinct postures evoke a sense of intention or will as "living sculptures" that compel viewers to reflect on what life truly is.
