1999年にPanasonic社に提案された Electric Thermo Potは、多くのキッチン電化製品がボタン、センサー、インジケーター満載の過度な複合機能を競っていた時期に、シンプルな「器」としてのアイデンティティを取り戻すことをキーコンセプトにデザインされたものである。デザインの基点として、全てのインターフェースをが蓋の上に集中的に配置され、全体形状も「器と蓋」であることが強調された造形になっている。調理用家電機器では一般的なメンブレンスイッチを廃し、昔からキッチンにある蛇口やダイヤルを引用した立体的な操作系によって、豊かで意味のある「ユーザーと道具との対話」を復活させる提案だった。２種類のデザインのプロトタイプが制作された。このプロトタイプのキーコンセプト「器と蓋」の造形要素は、2001年に発売されたパナソニックのジャーポットに引き継がれ、その後も調理家電のキーコンセプトとして長く同社のスタイルに影響を与えたモデルとなった。

Panasonic Electric Thermo Pot was designed and prototyped in 1999 when most kitchen electronics looked overly technical, equipped with buttons, sensors, and indicators. The pot was designed to re-emphasize its identity as a simple container. Its control interface was concentrated on the lid and freed the rest of the appliance of busy features. Input devices other than membrane switches were employed to re-introduce rich and meaningful user-machine interaction. Two designs were prototyped and served as an inspiration for a product that was commercialized in 2001.
