In 2003, at the request of architect Riken Yamamoto and aluminum building material manufacturer SUS, Shunji Yamanaka designed three types of furniture, chair, table, and grid shelf intended for home office use. These furniture pieces are primarily structured using extruded aluminum. While extrusion is a commonly employed, cost-effective, and precise manufacturing technique for building materials, Yamanaka capitalized on its capacity to create diverse cross-sectional shapes, proposing novel connection structures that blend aesthetic appeal with functionality. The outcome was the creation of affordable and visually appealing chairs and tables suitable for both office and kitchen settings. Production of these furniture items commenced in September 2003 and remains popular among many to this day.
