docomo Premium FOMAは、スマホが生まれる前の多機能ビジネスフォンとして2003年に提案されたものである。先行して開発が進んでいたOnQプロジェクトの製品化を目指したプロジェクトであった。高級高性能の携帯電話として、腕時計、万年筆、ライターなどの、所有の喜びを伝える伝統的なアイテムに特徴的な金属的質感を引用しつつ、華美な装飾に頼ることなく、機能的な多自由度のヒンジに焦点を当てたデザインとなっている。このヒンジによってこの携帯電話は、アプリケーションに応じてさまざまなフォーメーションをとることができる。携帯電話に長く触れるユーザーのために愛着の持てるアイテムとして提案されたものである。

docomo Premium FOMA is a mobile phone designed in 2003 as a multifunctional business phone, predating the era of smartphones.
Drawing inspiration from traditional personal items like watches, fountain pens, and lighters, which once conveyed their owners' identities, this phone boasts a sleek metal appearance. However, instead of relying on intricate ornamentation, its design revolves around a three-degree-of-freedom hinge that adapts its functionality to various applications. The overall design was crafted to foster intimacy between the user and the device, recognizing that users spend a significant amount of time in close physical proximity to their phones.
