The DoCoMo UI project is the second prototype-based product development tool for NTT DoCoMo. Unlike OnQ, which was developed to test a specific new service, this prototype was designed for more general user interaction testing, including new wallet-like applications for cell phones. The prototype also included peripheral interaction devices, such as the radio transceiver for monetary transactions, and various design parameters like feedback sound effects and lighting, which were integrally user-tested alongside the software interaction and refined in the same process. NTT DoCoMo continued to use this prototype for several years, and its results were leveraged in the design of the ID reader/writer the following year.
